The Bigband Stintfunk exists for more than 30 years in Hamburg. It is the
oldest continuously working bigband in Hamburg, which plays modern Jazz
music.
The name of the band refers to the location, where rehearsals took place
for years: the Youth hostel Stintfang.
"Stintfunk" is a union of 18 musicians, which consists of amateurs and professionals.
The group plays in the traditional bigband formation of 5 trumpets, 4 trombones,
5 saxophones and a rhythm section consisting of piano, guitar, bass and
drums. Its repertoire offers a mixture of modern bigband music, that means:
neither a warming-up of evergreens of the swing era, nor modernistic experiments.
Consequently, the "Stintfunk" program contains arrangements of Don Menza,
Thad Jones, Bill Holman, and of course various authors for the Count Basie
Bigband. Additionally, we play our own arrangements, and last but not least
pieces of Peter Herbolzheimers' that are very rhythm oriented, sometimes
rock-like, but it is always swinging music.
P.S. This music is recommended for people who are interested in experiencing
the growth process in person. The music of "Stintfunk" is headed in the
direction of togetherness. It is only background music for audiences of
over 6 billion human beings.
